• TOP 5 CITY BREAKS

Spring has sprung and this slight sighting of sunshine has me itching to get away, Holiday season is fast approaching, but if you can’t wait that long check out my 5 best city breaks.

Why not treat yourself to a mini break, and get in the mood for summer 18.

      NEW YORK STOLE MY HEART

New York literally stole my heart, I was lucky enough to spend a little over a year living and working in New York and without wanting to sound cliché it was quite possible the best experience of my life. New York is hustle, bustle and rooftops, what more could you want from a city break.

    There’s so much to see and do in New York I could write a book, but a few of my fave places would have to be;

    The Highline

The highland is a disused rail track which has been made into a beautiful walk way elevated above the streets of Manhattan. Its a great place to grab a coffee, have a walk and take in some of the city sights. It’s also based in the Meatpacking district which has some amazing bars & restaurants - defiantly a must when in NY.

    The Jane

Think Gatsby The Jane by day is hotel and by night its dancing on the tables in front of a roaring fire, under a rather large glitter ball. I had many a night at The Jane and would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

    Canal Street

Obviously NYC is known for being an amazing place to shop, unfortunately 5th avenue as nice as it is, was slightly out of my price range. Canal street is a great place to shop, great fashion and affordable prices - worth a visit.

Writing about New York brings back the best memories, its a great city and everybody should visit at least once in their lifetime - well in my opinion anyway ;)

    BARCELONA

My second favourite city and a little closer to home. Barcelona it is a beautiful city with its winding streets and beautiful architecture, it really is very pretty. A total different vibe to NY with a more laid-back feel, sipping a cocktail on the marina and having a walk on the beach. Again lots to see and do in Barcelona, here are my top three.

    La Merce Festival

This was quite a strange experience but a good one. This takes place at the end of September the festival held in Barcelona “La Merce Festival” which is a parade through the streets, its also know as the “Fire run” and you may feel the urge to run. The fire run consists of what I can only describe as Kathryn wheel fireworks being consistently lassoed in the air whilst the sparks fly out in to the crowd. Health and safety is out of the window. This is a great event and lots of fun

    Park Quell

A lovely park which has great architecture and a fabulous view over Barcelona, on a sunny day this is the place to be, very relaxing and lots to see.

    The Marina

I always like to take a walk on the marina and wonder who owns all the amazing Yachts, and Barcelona has a lovely marina area grab some food and a glass of wine and retire to your yacht on an evening or maybe just head back to your Airbnb - we can all dream.

    PARIS OUI, OUI

Paris the city of LOVE I went to Paris for my 30th and loved it!

Another pretty city, with lots to do and see, and super easy to get to on the Eurostar which can be cheap and cheerful.

If like me you like to take in the scenery of cities then I would recommend taking a boat trip down the river Seine, you can even book a meal whilst you cruise along, taking in all the lovely sights, such as the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre to name a few.  (probably a good idea to try bag a window seat)

    Eiffel Tower

The famous Eiffel Tower is something most people have done or would like to do, the views from the top are pretty spectacular, probably a must when in Paris.

    Open Top Bus

This is a great way to see all the sites a hop on bus is great to do on any city break, you get to see all the sights and it save’s those little legs.

    AMSTERDAM

Amsterdam is a great weekend trip especially if you take the overnight ferry (probably the best disco in town) lots of fun with a good group of friends. Although the trip itself in Amsterdam is rather short I’d advise to stay over the night and head back the following day.

Lots to see and do in Amsterdam, including some fab bars, restaurants, and boat trips

    BERLIN

Berlin very industrial and not the prettiest of cities I’ve been to, however I visited Berlin at Christmas and the Christmas markets were great. Plenty of winter clothing would be needed if you head out in December as it was bitterly cold. (We have some lovely Parka coats over at House of 925 which would be perfect for Berlin winter weather ;)

Lots of museums to visit, I’d recommend a visit to the Holocaust memorial ( memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe) this memorial is a maze of concrete blocks varying in different sizes. Located near the Brandenburg Gate which is also rather impressive.

When in Berlin the Berlin wall is a must see or should I say the remainder of the wall.

It’s a great little city especially if you’re into your history.

  • IT'S ALL ABOUT SELF-LOVE!!

Valentines is fast approaching, and yes its nice to spend the day showing  slightly more affection to your partner, maybe you’ll indulge in a bunch of flowers or a romantic meal for two, but for me there is nothing more important than self-love that's why this valentines day and in-fact every other day you should treat YOURSELF to some self-love

“Self-love is not selfish; you cannot truly love another until you know how to love yourself”

So if your single this Valentines or if you just want to indulge in some “Self-Love” here is a rundown of my top 10 ideas.

    1 GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS

Get together with your best girls, get dressed up, put on those heels and head to the nearest cocktail bar. Although its winter, it's cold and we do feel like hibernating, there is actually nothing better than getting dressed up and having a giggle with the girls.

***FACT - When you laugh or smile, it triggers a part of your brain that actually makes you happy*** (sounds good to me!)

    2. GRAB A COFFEE

This may seem such a simple pleasure, I actually really look forward to my morning take-out Latte, which I sip on my way to The House of 925 HQ. A daily coffee treat can make the morning just that little bit more bearable, it's such a simple pleasure.

    3. TREAT YOURSELF

Once in a while its good to have a little treat, I obviously like to treat myself, what with my daily lattes, and regular nights out with the girls…my Self-love is through the roof ;) but why not treat yourself to a manicure, massage or blow-dry, having a monthly treat can definitely help with a little self-love, when you look good, you feel good.

    4. GO FOR A WALK

Fresh air and a scenic walk always help's me clear out the cobwebs and I feel much better about it afterwards. Its one of the easiest ways to get more active, it doesn’t acquire any equipment and more importantly its FREE

    5. DRINK WATER

I admit I do struggle slightly with my intake of water, but drinking water every day can actually boost energy, improves productivity and helps with healthy skin, sounds like a winner to me.

    6. WATCH YOUR FAVOURITE FILM

Take some time to yourself, make a cup of tea, put on your comfy clothes and watch one of your favourite films, without interruption from your partner or children. bliss!

    7. TAKE IN SOME CULTURE

Visit a different, city, maybe even a weekend break in Europe, this is one of my favourite things, visiting new places especially throughout Europe it a real treat and should be done as often as possible.

    8.LEARN SOMETHING NEW

This doesn’t have to be extravagant, even if its just learning how to cook a new meal, how to create amazing images for your social media or learning something new about a friend. Keeping the brain active and just learning, in general, can make you feel as though your growing personally or professionally.

    9. RELAX

Take time to relax this is similar to point number 6, but taking time to have a long soak in the bath, or watching a couple of episodes of your favourite Netflix show can be a real stress de-buster. Take time for you.

    10. LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE

Remember we only have one life, sometimes day to day life can seem a little like groundhog day, but try to make the best of each day, ENJOY YOUR LIFE AND INDULGE IN SOME SELF-LOVE YOU DESERVE IT!

  • DREAM BIG!

www.houseof925.com has found a new home at The Piece Hall, Halifax having had great success online we decided to venture into our very first store so that all you lovely folk can actually come and see our fabulous fashion faves in person. :)

We’ve now been up and running for a full month and what a month it's been, we’ve had so many fabulous customers through the door, we wanted to thank you for all your support thus far. We have lots of things in the pipeline for the coming months and dare we say the run up to Christmas, including fashion shows, competitions, and of course lots of new amazing clothes, shoes, and accessories in time for the party season. Very exciting!

So has are the first month in business been what we expected?…YES YES AND YES!

Deciding to take www.houseof925.com to the next level was a daunting and exciting thought process that did lead to a few sleepless nights, but here are a few facts that helped me make my decision…

    1.Location

Location, location, location is everything - its most likely common sense to pick the right location for your business, and luckily for me, I couldn’t have picked a better spot than the glorious Piece Hall. I some times feel I have a fashion boutique in Italy with its fabulous architecture and its cosmopolitan vibe it's easy to forget I’m actually in Halifax.

This location was perfect for me it was close to my home, so a super quick commute, it's recently been re-developed and between me and you it felt right and for me that is the most important fact.

    2. Follow your passion

This is sometimes easier said than done, I’ve always had a passion for business, before I took the leap of faith I spent 11 years working in advertising and recruitment ( a little different from the retail and fashion industry) I spent a year working in New York and on my return I decided I needed to do what really made me happy, not that I wasn’t happy in my recruitment work, but it wasn’t how I wanted to spend the rest of my life, however, the skills I learnt and money I earned meant I was able to follow my dreams - and that I did I created www.houseof925.com and a year later Woll-Aaah we have the shop, hopefully, that will soon be plural and I will be reporting on all of my shops - Dream Big!

    3. Website or store first?

This question I’ve been asked several times and there is no right or wrong answer to this one, I created the website first as it's less of a risk than having overheads and being tied to an actual location, but since opening House of 925 I’ve seen www.houseof925.com grow massively as it's easy to promote the website to existing customers whilst they are in-store and for me it was the step I wanted to take to grow House of 925

    4. Follow your gut instinct.

I’m a massive believer in if something feels right it usually is, I’ve been really realistic in terms of what I expect and growing a business will not happen over night, in fact, the hard work is just beginning, working 7 days a week to build a business has now become life, but if you stick to your plans and goals and don’t listen to people’s negativity (believe me some people are negative about people wanting to achieve their own success - I know crazy!) I believe everything will work out just fine :)

Remember to check us out online at www.houseof925.com or pop into our lovely store at The Piece Hall, Halifax and as always give us a follow on social media.

  • WE CAN'T PREDICT THE FUTURE

Today is the start of a new year, and a new month, some may say"Happy New Year" whilst others may say "Happy Hangover Day" I myself can say I'm  not the biggest fan of New year and in my older age I would prefer to start the New Year feeling as fresh as a daisy on a summers day.

However, one thing I do like about the New year is the fact that it's just that "NEW" a New beginning, a NEW start, and maybe the start of a NEW outlook. I'm sure we all like to make New years resolutions in the hope that this year we will keep them. But the fact of the matter is within the first two weeks we've most likely forgotten and we're slowly on the decline back into our old ways slowly losing that Newness we were so excited about at the start of the year.

That's why this year I've decided to take on a different outlook in the hope I can keep the excitement of the New throughout the entire year, I mean who know's what will happen we can't predict the future but what we can do is set goals, and plans of things we want to achieve both personally and professionally.

For me House of 925 is NEW and I mean brand New, this is totally New to me and something I’m very excited about but also slightly nervous about. But if we never followed are dreams we’d never achieve the things that we set out to achieve and as they say this is the start of 365 days of opportunities so why not choose to slay.

Over the next 30 days I’m going to set myself a challenge of breaking a habit in 30 days, once I’ve completed the 30 days, I’ll set myself a new challenge for the following month. You can choose anything you want to break maybe it's smoking, or maybe it spending more time in the day for yourself whatever you choose let us know tweeting us @house_of_925 and #30daychallenge925

    Don’t loose that Newness feeling!

Happy New Year from the House of 925 Team xoxo
